Preschool Mandarin Immersion Program
​The Preschool Mandarin Immersion Program* has a maximum of 24 children enrolled per day in either the 2 day, 3 day, 5 day class with one teacher and two instructional assistants. The sessions currently run from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Bergeson Elementary School and is offered through CUSD Early Childhood Programs.

​​*Anyone choosing to enroll in the Mandarin Preschool Program must call the CUSD Early Childhood Programs office at (949) 234-5341 for available openings.

Elementary Mandarin Immersion Program
MIP at Bergeson is offered for grades K- 5th grade with two classes per grade and a maximum of 32 students per classroom. Mandarin Teaching Aides are provided by Friends of MIP and work in classrooms with the teachers.  Students at the elementary level begin learning traditional characters and begin to transition to simplified in the 6th grade. The school day begins at 7:45 am and ends at 2:05 pm.

MIP at Fred Newhart Middle School

Middle School Mandarin Immersion Program
MIP at Newhart continues language studies in grades 6th-8th with Mandarin Language Arts and History/Social Studies both offered in Mandarin through 7th grade and just Mandarin Language Arts in 8th grade. 

Students transition to using exclusively simplified characters and continue to develop their bilingual and biliterate skills for real-life communication. Proficiency testing is offered at the end of the school year to measure growth of language proficiency.

MIP at Capistrano Valley High School

High School Mandarin Immersion Program
MIP at Capo Valley continues rigorous language studies with World History in Mandarin in 9th grade and Mandarin Language Arts from 9th-12th grade.  Students who complete the program also have the opportunity to earn their International Baccalaureate diploma.
