CUSD Subcommittee on Mandarin Program Analysis

Tuesday, September 6th was the first meeting of the CUSD subcommittee specifically formed to support the Mandarin program analysis that the district is conducting for the K-12 Mandarin curriculum as well as the matriculation pathway for middle and high school.  The subcommittee members are as follows:

Debbie Carrillo - CUSD Director, English Learner and Support Programs
Natalie Baptiste - CUSD Coordinator of Language Acquisition K-12
Patricia Effenberger - CUSD Bilingual Staff Secretary
Greg Hauser - Principal Marian Bergeson Elementary
Jie Gao - MIP Curriculum Specialist
Dave Djavaherian - MIP Parent
Danielle Mosh - MIP Parent
Kathy Sales - MIP Parent
Susanne Dachgruber - MIP Parent / LIPAC (Language Immersion Program Advisory Committee) Member
Melissa Hodges - Spanish Immersion Parent / LIPAC Member

This subcommittee analysis will occur in the first few months of school and is tentatively due for completion at the end of October/early November.  The subcommittee is planning to meet regularly until the final handoff.  We discussed the group goals which were to:
(1) Review the curriculum based on the MIPAC K-12 curriculum study and results of an independent study conducted by Hanover a contracted research company. Part of the subcommittee’s tasks were to identify additional questions that we would like included in the research that Hanover will be conducting.
(2) Make a recommendation on which school sites are best suited for our program based on parent feedback, MIPAC curriculum study, accessibility, and the available middle school comparison.
